COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina lawmakers plan to formally consider impeaching Gov. Mark Sanford for the first time next week, the chairman of the committee beginning that work said Friday.

He said he expects to have a resolution to impeach ready before Christmas for the full Judiciary Committee to consider.

Sanford attorney Butch Bowers said his firm is representing Sanford in the impeachment hearing and "we look forward to cooperating with the House throughout this process."

The NFL Players Association opposes commissioner Roger Goodell's call for players to tell their teams' medical staffs if they think a teammate shows symptoms of a concussion.

NFLPA assistant executive director George Atallah tells The Associated Press on Friday that Goodell's suggestion is not an adequate solution.

Atallah says that instead of wanting players "to police each other," the league should make sure doctors keep a closer eye on players.
